Research Participants wanted !

Correlating different road conditions to the physiological sensory data of micro-mobility users

Address: Institute for Transport Studies (IVe), Ilse Wallentin-Haus, Peter Jordan Straße 82/III, 1190 Wien

Thank you very much for your interest in our study. Enclosed you will find information regarding this study, if you have any questions, please feel free to contact us on the above email address.

The aim of the study is to improve our understanding on dynamic behaviour of e-scooter riders and its neural correlates to explore how it influences their riding choices by measuring brain activity while performing the task using wet electrode EEG and physiological processing of cycling behaviour through the heart rate measurement using the Polar H10 chest strap.

During the study you will be able to see your own brainwaves and heart rate data and on top of that you will be rewarded with Sodexo vouchers worth €20 after completing the experiment.

If you agree to participate:

  • You will be asked to attend one experiment session, lasting no longer than 90 min.

  • During the first session, you will be asked to perform riding tasks in virtual reality using an e-scooter (Ninebot E25E) in Ilse-Wallentin-Haus and in an outdoor setting nearby the university premises. These tasks will be repeated several times and we will not determine your riding capability but rather want you to give us your impression of each task.

  • Along all the sessions (real and virtual) we will record electrical activity from your scalp using wet electrode EEG and the heart rate using ECG chest strap.

  • You will be given practice trials at the beginning of the experiment so that you can familiarise yourself with the equipment and to ask any questions before the experiment begins.

  • The risk involved in the experiment does not exceed an ordinary level of risk associated with any regular travel activities that you do on a daily basis.
