Virtual reality study: road signs vs. hazard acquisition

Would automation really allow the drivers to do something else whilst travelling?

Drivers are legally obliged to observe all the signs on the road. Current digitalization of the cars and road infrastructure increases attentional demands of the driver. At the same time, digitalization allows for transferring traditional road functions inside the car e.g. road guiding. This project aims to explore the potential for avionization of road infrastructure through a virtual reality experiment and identify the possible safety concerns which may emerge as a consequence of high degree of drivers’ distraction whilst cruising in such vehicles.
